The Move

Well it's been a few days since I wrote last and if you're reading this you're obviously wondering what I've been up to. Maybe not because you're interested in me personally but because you like hearing what other pilots get up to in New Eden. Before I break it down for you I'd like to provide a link for you to check out later: http://www.crazykinux.com. Mr. Kinux is a long time resident of New Eden and his website is a very good resource (particularly because it links back to me).

So what have I been up to? Well, I spent a good chunk of time in the RGDC Wolf running missions in and around the Parts system. I'd been trying to build my reputation (and my corporation's reputation) with the Federal Intelligence Office with a plan to eventually move into one of their stations. My corporation has been operating out of an Ishukone station mainly to have access to the research facility but they've been taxing the hell out of us and it's hard to impress a Caldari corporation when you're a Gallente living in Gallente space. One of my missions required me to head to the Decon system. Something about Decon played at the back of my mind until I remember where I had seen that name recently. Mynxee of the Hellcats had been in that sector doing her thing, blowing up ships. Now I was torn at this point. I was struggling between wanting to meet Mynxee (as I know she's read some of my entries) and wanting to not be blown up at our first encounter. I decided to give it a go and made the series of jumps to Decon. It was a fairly anti-climatic trip as Decon was nearly empty at the time. Oh well, perhaps we'll run into each other later.

After raising my reputation with the Federal Intelligence Office I decided it was time for a change of scenery. I rented some office space at one of the Federal Intelligence Office stations in Haine and started the laborous task of relocating all of my corporation's assets. I hopped into the RGDC McHauler and got to work. When everything was said and done I must have made the trip back and forth to Allebin at least 25 times. My corporation has been mining a lot lately to manufacture a Hyperion class battleship and the minerals were what took up most of my time.

All moved into the station, I organized a well guarded mining expedition. We got quite a few loads of both Pristine and Pure Jaspet before our Hulk pilot had to take a break for bigger and better things.

I noticed that there appears to be a few undesirable individuals that frequent Haine. As such, I organized a bit of an informal alliance with the Do Werk corporation. It's nice to be able to look at local and see a few blue out there while you're going about your business. The CEO of Do Werk and I were in the mood to blow some stuff up so we went about mission running. Unfortunately, my new friend lost his Caracal cruiser in a large battle. I picked up his items that survived the explosion and, feeling bad that he lost a ship helping me out, repaired all the items before returning them to him.

Aren't I a nice guy?

Fancy Electronics

First of all, a shout out to Mynxee for being the first person to comment on my adventures. She and Spectre3353 motivated me to start this project with their entertaining journals which I continue to follow.

Having grown tired of the RGDC Fighting Llama after only a few flights, I looked around the station to see what else I could play with. My eyes happened upon the recently acquired RGDC Prometheus, a Celestis class cruiser, sitting lonely in the corner. A very low-mileage vessel, the Prometheus had only ever flown from it's point of manufacture to our base in Allebin. The plan when it was purchased was to turn the ship into an electronic nightmare in space. I boarded the ship and took a look around. The plastic was still on the seats and there was paper towel covering the floor mats. I considered taking the ship to the nearest space McDonald's (over 99 trillion served) but I was already in my pajamas. Instead, I walked myself down to our equipment and weapon hangars to see what I could throw together that might combine for a nice fitting on the Prometheus.

Now, I'm not really the Electronic Warfare guy around the corporation but I've soldered a circuit board or two in my life and can find my way around a sensor jammer. I decided I would fit the Prometheus just the way I'd want it to be flown by someone assisting me in a battle. I spent about half an hour loading and unloading modules until everything was just right. No sooner had I patted myself on the back when the Corp channel started blinking. Daedus Aser (the real electronic warfare guy) was online. Like a proud kid with a macaroni picture to hang on the fridge I showed Daedus my fitting and told him to take the Prometheus out into space so we could blow things up. Daedus told me he couldn't equip my fitting. I expressed my displeasure and commented that maybe he wasn't the Electronic Warfare master I thought he was. His response was that hybrid railguns are not Electronic Warfare. A valid point. I figured screw the railguns anyway, I'll be bringing enough guns for both of us. Away we went.

I undocked in the freshly manufactured RGDC Wolf, a Thorax class cruiser. Daedus and I didn't really feel like running missions but wanted to do some killing so we decided to tour some asteroid belts and blow up whatever we found. We first headed to the Perckhevin system and warmed up with some Serpentis frigates (how I have a positive standing with them is beyond my comprehension). We then headed over to Haine to find some bigger targets and maybe a lonely miner or two. A few Serpentis destroyers and cruisers became space-dust but no miners. Just as my cargo hold filled to the brim with useless loot I noticed an unsavoury character appear in local. The individual in question had more skill points than Daedus and I combined and a security rating of -9.5. I'm not quite sure how he even got to Haine as it's surrounded by high-sec space. A jump clone maybe? Pod travel? Irregardless, we decided to call it a night and headed back to Allebin to reprocess our garbage loot.

Special Delivery

Well, last night found me in the RGDC McHauler making runs around the galaxy picking up ore. In a moment of flawed logic I decided to supplement our corporation's miners by purchasing ore on the market. I created very large buy orders (at a discounted price of course) and set a distance of 10 jumps from our headquarters. What I hadn't considered is that when you have 500,000 Dense Veldspar in a system 10 jumps away, it takes just as long retrieving the ore as it would just to mine it myself. Obviously mining the ore myself would have saved millions of dollars. If I want to do something like this again I need to increase my skills so that I can fly a ship with a bigger cargo hold than an Iteron II. If I was in an Iteron V and could cut down on the number of trips, the whole thing might cross the line into "good idea" territory.

After some mindless travelling through mainly high-sec space I put the McHauler away for the night and jumped into the RGDC Fighting Llama. I looked through the weapons and equipment on hand and came up with a fitting that I thought I liked. I didn't feel like doing missions so I headed to the local asteroid belts to say hello to my good friends of the Serpentis Corporation. The Fighting Llama and her drones didn't take long to run out of play-mates so off I went to the Haine system. After a few more asteroid belts full of idiot Serpentis pilots I decided that I'm not a big fan of the Vexor cruiser. Maybe it's because I've been flying battle-cruisers lately but the Vexor just seemed like an under-performer. I did however take a liking to the Haine system. Perhaps the corporation should consider moving it's headquarters there. After a swing through Perckhevin I headed back to Allebin and put the Fighting Llama away for the night.

As a side note: I approved an application last night and welcomed Dicez to the Red Guardian Defence Corporation.

First Entry

Well, let it be stated that this blog is about my adventures in New Eden. Not familiar with it? Head to www.eve-online.com for a free trial to check it out. You'll often find me in Allebin where my corporation is headquartered; or hauling ass through Parts and Obalyu, trying to avoid pirates, on my way to pick up ore from somewhere. The name of the blog? Well, I always enjoyed the Muppets and there isn't anything more fun to say than, "PIGS IN SPACE." (Though I am the sole author so it is shortened to pig, singular).

I am the founder and CEO of the Red Guardian Defence Corporation. We're struggling to carve a niche for ourselves in this new frontier. It's difficult living on the edge of Low-Sec space but if you want access to the best minerals (which we do) and access to the best mission agents (which we do) then it's the place to be. Is it dangerous? Of course it is.

Here's an example. I was in the RGDC Gargoyle, a Myrmidon class battle-cruiser, running missions for an agent in Atlulle. The agent asked very politely if I would swing by the Ladistier system and pick up a a shipment of antiviral drugs. Now, Ladistier is only 0.3 space but I figured, why not? The Gargoyle was nicely fitted with some Tech-2 equipment and I figured if nothing else, I could make a dent in any attacker.

So there I was in Ladistier, I had successfully picked up the antiviral drugs and undocked from the station. The first thing to meet me once I cleared the docking lane: a Dominix class battleship. Now the Dominix is nothing fancy. It's an old Gallente design and I could see the dents and scratches on this one from where I sat in my chair. As I aligned to warp to the stargate that would lead me home I looked at the pilot's info: pirate. And not just any pirate, a red-neck space trucker pirate. Namamai, the captain of the Dominix, is a member of the Dire Trucking corporation. And as Jeff Foxworthy is famous for saying, you might be a red-neck if you're a member of a space pirate trucking corporation.

The Dominix target-locked the Gargoyle and activated a warp disruptor. At this point is where I made my big mistake: I didn't look around. I should have turned the Gargoyle back towards the station and started begging the docking manager to let me back in. But I didn't. Why? Because I didn't see the other red-neck space trucker pirate lurking in the distance in his Megathron class battleship. The Megathron, unlike the Dominix, is state of the art and more than capable of handling it's own in the depths of space.

At my command the Gargoyle launched it's drones and activated it's primary weapons. The Dominix started taking damage and I activated the two armour repairers on-board. The Dominix's shields started to lower. That's when it happened: the damage the Gargoyle was taking increased dramatically. I looked around to see what had changed and noticed the sunlight reflecting off of the Megathron's polished hull. Before you could say "PIGS IN SPACE" I was floating in my escape pod. I could faintly hear the dueling banjos in the distance as I warped away to safety. No, I didn't lose my pod and yes, the ship was insured. The antiviral drugs however, were destroyed. I had to call my agent and let her know that unfortunately her shipment was lossed.

The only good to come out of this altercation: I got to go ship-shopping. And who doesn't love that new-ship smell? Before long, I was back in space in the RGDC Fighting Llama, a Vexor class cruiser.

Until next time...
